UGA Interdisciplinary Field Program Course Selection
Please read carefully!
The UGA IFP is an amazing camping and hiking field trip. First and foremost though, the IFP is a rigorous academic program. You will be taking a full load of courses during a packed two months of traveling, working, and studying.
The IFP course load includes 4-8 credit hours of Geology (GEOL), 4 credit hours of Ecology (ECOL), and 3 credit hours of Anthropology (ANTH). There are lower and upper level courses available for each. Because all IFP students participate in the same activities and work on projects together,
we expect everyone to register for at least one course in each discipline
we teach. Registration for the second GEOL course is optional, however you will be expected to do the work for it during the summer. Registration for Physical Education (PEDB), if offered, is also optional.
We encourage you to discuss the IFP course selection options with your academic advisor to determine which will best help you complete your degree.
The courses you select on this form are not binding at the time of your application to the program. You can change them later if needed.
If you are not a UGA student
and need to transfer course credits to your home institution, it is your responsibility to determine if and how UGA courses will transfer. Most of our introductory courses will have equivalents at your home school and will transfer easily.
If you want to read the course descriptions for these classes, you can find them by searching the UGA Bulletin. Course syllabi are posted on the IFP website.
Our courses are designated POD (permission of department). This prevents non-IFP students from inadvertently signing up for our courses.
You cannot register for IFP courses until we clear you.
We will do this after you have been accepted to the program and you have paid the $500 deposit. With the information you provide on this form, we will clear POD and any prerequisites you need for summer registration.
Also note that if your total credit hours for the summer semester exceeds 17 hours (
any courses you plan to take during Maymester), you will need clearance from the Registrar. We can help you obtain clearance if necessary.
